Fine furniture from Glastonbury
Don lives and works in Glastonbury, where he has a workshop, Avalon Heartwood.
Originally from Hamilton, Scotland, Don trained as a Furniture Maker at City of Bristol College. He is greatly inspired by the Arts and Crafts Style of his native country and also draws influence from Scandinavian and Japanese design. His work ranges from larger bespoke pieces such as cabinets and tables through to smaller items for the home, such as clocks and chopping boards.
Don makes bespoke pieces of furniture, using mainly native hardwoods sourced in Somerset and the surrounding area. All items are built using traditional woodworking techniques such as Mortice and Tenon & Dovetail joints, to ensure structurally sound construction. Wherever possible he likes to use hand tools to create pieces.
